about gospel guardians
Welcome to the website of the gospel guardians. Before I go any further, I want to put your mind at ease as to where we're coming from. I know that when I receive something spiritual in the mail or come across a gospel tract I haven't seen before, the first thing I want to do is verify who it's coming from.
who we are not
• We are not Mormon - One of the main producers of blatantly false spiritual material is the "Mormon Church of Latter Day Saints" (LDS). This in NOT us! When you find out what they actually believe, it sounds like a bad science fiction story. Mormons believe there are thousands of gods and when male Mormons die, they will become gods over their own universes. They believe Jesus is one of several sons from one particular god. They also believe Satan is the brother of Jesus. To learn more, click here: "The Mormon Dilemma"
• We are not Jehovah's Witness - The second main producer of blatantly false spiritual material are the "Jehovah's Witnesses". They consider themselves a Christian denomination, and are much closer to Christianity in their beliefs compared to Mormons That said, there is a key difference that puts them in grave error. They refuse to believe that Jesus is equal to the Father and the Holy Spirit. They have demoted Him to be of secondary importance and authority. That one change will keep them from getting saved. It shows how critical it is that we understand Jesus IS equal to God when we believe. Jehovah's Witnesses also refuse to celebrate holidays, including birthdays, but more significantly reject Christmas and Easter.
• We are not charismatic - "Charismatic" is a type of Christian church. I only call it out because they seem to be the other producer of spiritual material you may get in the mail. It's often an advertisement for a talk on "End Times" or a healing seminar. Years ago I attended one of those "healing seminars" and it was problematic. Overall, charismatic churches put an over-emphasis on the Holy Spirit (who by His nature wants to quietly work in the background as He guides us).` Charismatic churches put an emphasis on emotion and often teach that you can lose your salvation as a result of certain sins. We are not charismatic
• we are not Calvinists - While Calvinists aren't known for sending out printed material, it's a growing theology steeped in error that is infiltrating Christian churches. Calvinists believe that only those predestined by God can be saved. Those who do get saved have no choice in the matter - it's going to happen. For the rest - they cannot be saved because they haven't been chosen by God. It removes free will and actually represents God as not so loving after all. It changes John 3:16 ("whosoever believes in Him") from an open invitation to all mankind into an inclusive "invitation-only" situation that contradicts and twists scripture. "For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires ALL men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." (1 Timothy 2:3-4) To learn more: "Dave Hunt on Calvinism"
• We are not affiliated with any denomination or specific congregation - There's no perfect denomination, nor does it seems biblically encouraged to claim a denomination. "What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”; another, “I follow Apollos”; another, “I follow Cephas”; still another, “I follow Christ." Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul?" (1 Corinthians 1:12-13) Even "non-denominational" seems to have become a denomination.
who we are
• God-fearing believers in Christ - Simply put, we are Christians - God-fearing born-again believers in Christ. As to what we believe? You'll find that on every page of this site.
• We hold to scripture as God's perfect word - If scripture says it, we believe it. We believe God created the world in 6 literal days because scripture says He did. We also look at the context of scripture to get a more full, accurate understanding. The Holy Spirit gives understanding as we seek Him in His word. "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." (James 1;5)
• We are small (though He is mighty) - While we are just a few, we serve a mighty God. It's not about us, but about Him, to His glory.
gospel guardian's purpose
We had collected every gospel tract we could get our hands on, and found few to none that clearly stated the biblical gospel without adding something unscriptural. So it started out with the purpose of creating a single gospel tract that included everything scripturally necessary, and nothing contrary to scripture. As we handed them out in public, we realized that we'll probably never see most of these people again. What do they do if they have questions? What about if they get saved? So this website was developed to support the gospel tracts, but also to provide some encouragement for believers at every stage of their walk.
